 Hi! We are Dr. Ian Kennedy and Dr. Larissa Michel. We both went to Yale University. There, we earned our PhD Degrees. We chose to be experts on the Assyrians because we think that they are the most powerful empire of the Mesopotamian Era.

 The Assyrians were extremely violent, cruel, and mean to others. Numerous rumors were spread by the Assyrians about how cruel they were to others. One of these rumors was that when they cut off the heads of enemy leaders, they forced the defeated soldiers to march barefoot, wearing their leaders’ heads on their necks.  The Assyrians were excellently trained in military tactics, and they were experts at siege warfare, where an army camps just outside the walls of an enemy city and attacks it over and over until the city surrenders. They were also the first to use battering rams to punch holes in city walls. They also built tall towers, which they could roll up against enemy city walls, and the soldiers used them to climb over the defensive walls that surround cities.

 The king of the Neobabylons was Nebuchadrezzar II. As a military leader, Nebuchadrezzar II knew that he had to keep his capital city, Babylon, safe. So he built 3 defenses: an inner wall, an outer wall, and, later, a moat filled with water. The wall were so thick that 2 chariots could pass each other on top of them. The Neobabylons probably had the best defenses in the Mesopotapian era.
