WHAT IS PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPOSITION?

Organizing the various elements of the scene in a way that is pleasing to the eye. Defining a specific focal point or Main Subject Photographic Composition is:

BASICS OF COMPOSITION vl&list=PLeu1p5jL9GOPOGNiJPcLHjTGo-x8abhF3&safety_mode=true cLHjTGo-x8abhF3

WHAT IS A FOCAL POINT / MAIN SUBJECT?

An object or area of the photo that you feel is the most important or that should be emphasized the most. This can be a person, object, group of objects or even just a specific area of the photo that you want to draw the viewers eye to. THE FOCAL POINT IS:

Formal Balance Informal Balance High Key Low Key Rule of thirds Leading lines Framing Horizon Photos THERE ARE 8 DIFFERENT TYPES OF PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPOSITION.

FORMAL BALANCE

FORMAL BALANCE IS WHEN THE ELEMENTS OF EACH SIDE OF THE PHOTO ARE SYMMETRICAL THIS IS OFTEN CALLED SYMMETRICAL BALANCE

BOTH SIDES OF PHOTO MATCH EACH OTHER.

INFORMAL BALANCE Informal balance relates to the visual balance of the photo. Each side of the photo must relate to the other and therefore balance the scene, but they do not have to be the same item. Often they are the same image at a different size.

THIS IS OFTEN CALLED ASYMMETRICAL BALANCE

HIGH KEY This type of composition is created when you have a light coloured subject on a light colour background

HIGH KEY

LOW KEY This type of composition is created when you have a dark coloured subject on a dark colour background

LOW KEY

RULE OF THIRDS jTGo-x8abhF3&safety_mode=true This is the most common type of composition it is created when the subject falls on the intersecting point of the imaginary lines created when you break the photo into thirds both vertically and horizontally

RULE OF THIRDS

LEADING LINES This is a type of composition where you use forground elements to direct the viewer through your photo, ending at The focal point.

FRAMING

This type of composition is where objects in the foreground and Background of a photo help to frame or emphasize the main subject of the photo.

FRAMING

HORIZON PHOTOS This is the type of composition Where the horizon is the main focus of the photo and it is placed on the upper third or lower or the photo.

HOW A CAMERA WORKS CONTINUED

t7Ker8FMNCTyEynb3ds&safety_mode=true WHITE BALANCE COLOUR TEMPERATURE This is the setting that we can control how our camera perceives what is white. There are many different types of settings the most common ones are: AUTO, SUNNY, CLOUDY, FLORECENT, TUNGSTON, FLASH, AND MANUAL

FILE FORMATS 9GOPjGt7Ker8FMNCTyEynb3ds&safety_mode=true.jpg - This is a standardized format to save a photo in but it is very compressed and doesn't give you very much control to make changes because of this compression you can fit lots of photos on your camera RAW – This is format that only higher end cameras can save in and it allows you great control to makes changes later but they are very large and as such take up lots of space on your camera.
