Importing Features (1d & 2d)

Click on Hydrography

Click on Load and Load Data

Next

Browse to A_NHD_Maintenance/1804/ Import_Shapefiles/Import_Line.shp Open

Next Add

Next I do not want to load all the features into a subtype

Next

Load all of the source data Next

Finish

Preview import_line data

This is the data you are going to import

Repeat steps in slides 3-12 for Import_Poly using Import_Poly.shp as the input

ArcMap: Zoom to Layer – Import_Line feature class

Flip the feature in the yellow box

You flip this feature outside the NHDGeoEditTools

Now it is pointing down stream

Gap line-ends Find the largest gap or overshoot This will be used to set your snapping tolerance later

.85 m There is a.85 meter gap

Gap line-edges

2.46 m 1.0 m There are gaps of 1.0 and 2.46 meter gap

Overshoot line-edges

2.4 m This overshoot is 2.4 meters

A.)Snap end features: (Stream end to stream end) Open Build Geometric Network Wizard in Arc Catalogue. 1. Build a geometric network from existing features. 2. Select NHDFlowline and Import_Lines. 3. Click No on 'Do you want to preserve existing enabled values?' 4. Click No on 'Do you want complex edges in your network?' Note: Choose 'no' on first round to make sure that all import_lines that CAN snap to an end do so rather than snapping to edge. (snap end to end) Choose 'yes' on second round to catch those arcs that had no end node within snap tolerance to snap to. (snap end to edge). 5. Click Yes on 'Do your features need to be snapped', check ONLY import line from 'Select features that can be moved' list. Specify a suitable tolerance for your dataset. 6. Click No on 'Do you want to assign weights to your network?' 7. Click Finish on 'Summary of your input.' 8. Delete Network B.) Repeat steps from 'A' choosing Yes on 'Do you want complex edges in your network?'

Click on New and Geometric Network

Next

Build a geometric network from existing features Next

Note: You will only see this window during the first network build if you previously had a network (Enabled Field in NHDFlowline table) Skip to next slide if you do not see this window… No Next

Select: NHDFlowline & Import_Line Use default name Next

Do you want complex edges in your network? No Next

Do your features need to be snapped - ● Yes Snap Tolerance – Based on largest gap or overshoot from data anaysis Select features that can be moved – Select Import_Line Next

Do you want to assign weights to your network? No Next

Finish

Hydrography_Net is created

Right click on Hydrography_Net - Delete

Right click in white space – New – Geometric Network…

Next

Select NHDFlowline and import_line Next

No Next

Select both if you have gaps within your local data Next

Select “Yes” features need to be snapped Set the snap tolerance to 3 because the largest gap was less than 3 Select import_line Next

No Next

Finish

Delete the Geometric Network

Open ArcMap and Select Metadata Session to start the NHDGeoEditTools Click on Editor and open Editing Options Set Snapping tolerance to 1 map units

Select all features in import_line

Click Edit and Copy

Select ADD NHDFLOWLINE and Select Subtype Select StreamRiver and StreamRiver Hydrographic Category = Intermittent

Select Import NHDFlowline Geometry Select paste

Apply NHDFlowline Rules and Save NHDFlowline Add

Import Polygons Select all features in import_poly

Click Edit and Copy

Select ADD NHDWATERBODY and Select Subtype Select LakePond and LakePond Hydrographic Category = Perennial

Select Import NHDWaterbody Geometry and Paste

Apply NHDWaterbody Rules and Save NHDWaterbody Add

The Apply Rules made all NHDFlowlines in LakePonds Artificial Paths

Start All Programs NHDUtilities NetworkBuilder Browse to 1804_alb.mdb- Hydrography, NHDflowline Build Network Build a Geometric Network

Utility Network Analyst Toolbar: Add Edge Flag tool – Add Flag in location shown below Trace Task – Set to Trace Upstream Solve

Network has traced through pre-existing features and new import features indicating that all new imports snapped correctly

Turn Labels on: By displaying ComID’s you can ensure that all features were split correctly

Assign Reach Codes to new features Click on Utilities and Assign Reach Code Select NHDFlowline and NHDWaterbody Click OK

All Features now have a ReachCode
