The Rio Grande Task : Students will identify the Mississippi, Ohio, Rio Grande, Colorado, and Hudson rivers. Students will identify the Mississippi, Ohio, Rio Grande, Colorado, and Hudson rivers.

The Rio Grande “Where is the Rio Grande River?” “Why is it an important waterway in the U.S.?”

The Rio Grande

It is used for irrigation; that means, it’s used to water crops and fields nearby.

The Rio Grande It is the fourth longest river in the country. It is 1,885 miles long.

The Rio Grande Three states and two countries are joined by this river.

The Rio Grande The 3 states are: Colorado Texas New Mexico We (U.S.) share the river with Mexico.

The Rio Grande empties into the Gulf of Mexico. What river does that remind of? Mississippi The Rio Grande

The Rio Grande begins in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado.

The Rio Grande It is not deep or wide enough for ships to travel. Only small rowboats or canoes can travel on the Rio Grande.

The Rio Grande Rio Grande is Spanish for “Big River.”

The Rio Grande Many animals, birds, fish and plants call the river home.

The Rio Grande Unlike the Mississippi, flooding is not a problem. The Rio Grande is a protected river.

The Rio Grande This is what the mud looks like in places where the river is dry. Plants can’t grow and animals can’t drink. The animals that live near or in the water do not have anywhere to live.

The Rio Grande Tell someone at your table ONE thing you have learned about the Rio Grande river.
