Social Services Department What is Workforce Planning? Is ensuring we have the right number of people with the right skills, in the right place at the right time to deliver short and long term organisation objectives.

Social Services Department Why workforce plan? To ensure we have sufficient skilled staff to deliver our business plans.

Social Services Department What does workforce planning mean to you?  Helps to better understand your staffing needs  Anticipating and forecasting future requirements  More informed decision making  Allows the appropriate development of the workforce  Leads to a better understanding of the workforce

Social Services Department Data Collection  Sept 2011 improvements made to the process.  Staff Information Updates  Agreed a timetable for future validation  January for Annual Workforce Data Collection  June and September for Staff Information Updates  January 2012  Workforce Information has been circulated requesting amendments to be submitted and returned to WFD Team by 31 st January 2012.

Social Services Department Data Collection – Why?  To assist with Workforce Planning  This data is used in the preparation of the SCWDP grant application.  The successful application process provides the WFD Team with a budget to commission qualifications and training activities on behalf of the Social Care Partnership.

Social Services Department Commissioning / Delivery Our training and development activities are delivered through a variety providers with skills and knowledge in specialist areas.  Workforce Development Team  BGCBC staff  Partnership Organisations  External Training Providers  Universities and Colleges

Social Services Department Evaluation the current system  Participant and Trainer Questionnaire feedback  Good levels of positive feedback  We expect Managers to discuss aims and objectives with staff prior to attendance at course  We expect Managers to discuss the effect of the training back at the workplace to ensure the transfer of learning is maximised  Positive and negative aspects of training should be discussed with the Workforce Development Team

Social Services Department Evaluation Review  December a review of how Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly Social Care Partnerships currently undertake the evaluation of training sessions.  The aim is to propose a common approach for both partnerships that will provide effective information to assess the quality of training provided and evidence the transfer of learning.  A series of meetings with a variety of key officers.  A report will be provided in March 2012.
