TRUCKING’S ITSY-BITSY ROLE IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN A Few Observations

WHAT IS FREIGHT? Feels like “freight” must be big, heavy, and travel a long way on its trip Mail Milk (or Beer) (or OJ) Asphalt Waste or Recycle

WHAT IS LAST MILE? Huh? First Mile? Middle Mile? Only Mile? Every Mile? Almost 70% nationally, 80% Florida 85% of Florida’s communities

WHAT WE HAVE IN COMMON Need for Energy Innovation/Automation Need for Infrastructure Co-Dependency Indispensability

HOW TRUCKING IS DIFFERENT Complicated Raw numbers, fragmented, disorganized Interactive Close (dangerous), enforcement, needy Vulnerable Parking, drivers, legislation, tolling, low margin “Misunderstood” Image (love-hate), slow, wrong lane, get trucks off the road!

FROM GETTING THEM OFF THE ROAD TO MAKING IT EASIER FOR THEM TO DO THEIR JOB Straw Poll TRUCKING MOVES AMERICA FORWARD or YOUR TOMORROW IS ON A TRUCK TODAY

Kenneth S. Armstrong, Ph.D. President and CEO Florida Trucking Association (850)
