Fundy Engineering and Consulting Ltd: Our Natural Gas Experience Presented by Tim Ryan, M.Eng., P.Eng.

Fundy Engineering  Fundy Engineering is a boutique engineering firm headquartered in Saint John, NB. We have been supplying environmental, geotechnical, and building systems engineering to Atlantic Canada for over 20 years.  Fundy Engineering has been interested and involved in the natural gas industry in NB as we feel that natural gas extraction could be an economic boost to the province but it must also be conducted in a responsible manner, including stringent government regulation, to preserve our pristine natural environment.  Our involvement has included:  Designed the one and only approved well pad built under the new NB Rules for Industry  Authored a White Paper on Shale Gas in New Brunswick  Conducted a NRC IRAP funded project focused on shale gas water treatment potential  Conducted a study on wellpad density based upon different drilling types

Summit Joint Venture  Summit Liability Solutions is an environmental services company based in Alberta.  Through our partnership we support their efforts in upstream oil and gas projects out west, including natural gas projects, with our geotechnical and environmental groups.  To date we have completed 252 jobs through this partnership  We have gained knowledge and lessons learned from working on projects from out west where a mature natural gas industry exists, including examples of best management practices which New Brunswick could utilize moving forward.

 In 2011 Fundy Engineering and the Atlantica Centre for Energy produced a white paper on Shale Gas in New Brunswick and in 2015 we ghost produced a brochure on wastewater for the Atlantica Centre for Energy  In 2014 Fundy Engineering undertook an NRC IRAP funded project to review the New Brunswick regulations on waste water disposal, NB deep water aquifer water quality, waste disposal and treatment technologies which are undertaken in other regions; all with the overarching goal of understanding what a water treatment solution in New Brunswick might look like.  A study on the land impacts of vertical vs horizontal well drilling was undertaken  A New Brunswick focused water cycle infographic was created. Natural Gas Knowledge

Natural Gas Design Work  Fundy Engineering designed a wellpad for Corridor Resources; the only approved wellpad under the current New Brunswick Rules for Industry.

Natural Gas in NB If the industry were to move forward we see the following opportunities for Fundy Engineering: -Employment for our engineers, scientists, technicians -Possibility for company growth -Supply chain opportunities such as permitting and design work -Further research and development projects as the industry moves forward
