Tsunami is a Japanese word meaning ‘Harbour Wave’. In the past the scientific community sometimes referred to them as ‘tidal waves’ or ‘seismic sea.
Causes of earthquakes An earthquake is defined as the shaking of the earth’s crust Can be large or small Earthquakes occur when energy is suddenly released.
EARTHQUAKES. INTRODUCTION TO EARTHQUAKES Earthquake = a vibration of the Earth produced by the release of energy. Seismology is the study of earthquakes.

Causes and Effects of Natural Disasters Made by Sunwoo Son

Natural Disasters The dictionary definition of ‘Natural’ means exiting in nature; not made or caused by humans and ‘Disaster’ means an unexpected accident that kills a lot of people or causes a lot of damage. They were always the subject of fear. Ancient Greeks got the motivation of their gods and most of their gods have his/her symbol, like Zeus(Jupiter) could strike thunders and Gods of Wind and Rainstorm could cause flood. They also believed that Typhon, the hideous monster, was trapped under the mountain and made the volcanoes erupt. Back then, natural disasters were something that couldn’t be explained if they didn’t borrow the names of God and non-human creatures.

Nowadays Anyways, natural disasters’ secrets are unveiled a lot nowadays, and we can even predict some natural disasters like earthquakes. Saying in addition, some people say that animals act strange before an earthquake like birds flying away or toads crawl out, but it has no scientific sense to it. However, there are many countries which can’t prepare/settle the situation-especially after earthquakes.

Earthquakes Lets start with earthquakes. Earthquakes are basically the movements and the shake of Earth’s surface (plates), and the sudden release of the energy causes in the Earth’s crust creates ‘seismic energy.’ It is measured in a scale called ‘Richter scale’. Many earthquakes take place near the Ring of Fire- which is an area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where a large number of volcanoes are gathered. If it takes place in a country or a place near the sea, there can be possibilities of tsunami arriving together.

The Chilean Earthquake This is the worst earthquake ever in the history was the 1960 Great Chilean earthquake, recording magnitude 9.5- which could be felt from a place 1,000km away, and killed 6000 people in the place. Valdivia, Chile

Tsunami A tsunami (plu. tsunamis) from Japanese (津波), meaning ‘harbor wave’, also known as a seismic sea wave or as a tidal wave, is a series of waves in a water body caused by the displacement of a large volume of water, generally in an ocean or a large lakes. Earthquakes, volcanic eruption, etc. can cause tsunami. As you can derive a brief idea from its name, Japan has the longest history of tsunamis, while the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami inscribed the awareness in people’s mind.

Earthquake and Tsunami 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami This is one of the most recent earthquake-and-tsunami-combined natural disaster, which had a magnitude 9.0 and a tsunami wave height reaching 40.5 meters, which caused 15,891 deaths, 6,152 injuries and 2,584 missing people. Tokyo tower’s antenna damaged because of the hit Tsunami damage between Sendai and Sendai Bay
