Set of measures administered at the classroom, school, district, and state levels –May be in any grade or content area –May vary by test type ( e.g., formative, interim, summative ) –May vary by test purpose ( e.g., to support instructional decision-making, for accountability ) –May vary by mode of administration ( e.g., paper/pencil, computer-supported ) Together, provide useful information to wide range of audiences 6

TOM TORLAKSON State Superintendent of Public Instruction Guiding Principle 1 … an integrated, coherent system of multiple measures, all working in unison to –model and promote effective teaching practices and improve student learning –communicate state priorities for instruction of all students, including college and career ready expectations –yield trustworthy performance data that can be used in wide range of content areas. 10
