Welcome to : The Music Of Berlioz & The Music of Tchaikovsky

Louis-Hector Berlioz

Who is Berlioz???? Born Sunday, December 11, 1803, La Côte-Saint-André, Isére Died Monday, March 8, 1869, Paris, Louis-Hector Berlioz 1863 photograph of Berlioz, by Pierre Petit

The Music of Berlioz One of the most original composers of the 19th (or any) Century, Berlioz polarised public opinion then – and seemingly ever since – about the quality of his music.

To many contemporaries who were expecting “four-square” music he lacked melody, whereas Berlioz is often profoundly melodic, using long-phrased and distinctively individual melodies.

The Music Of Tchaikovsky Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky · Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky in English, was a Russian composer of the Romantic era. Tchaikovsky wrote music across a range of genres, including symphony, opera, ballet, instrumental, chamber and song.composerRomanticsymphony instrumentalchamber

He wrote some of the most popular concert and theatrical music in the current classical repertoire, including the ballets Swan Lake click here The Sleeping BeautyThe Sleeping Beauty click

and The NutcrackerThe Nutcracker click as well as the 1812 Overture, his First Piano Concerto, his last three numbered symphonies, and the opera Eugene Onegin.1812 OvertureFirst Piano ConcertosymphoniesEugene Onegin

Although perennially popular with concert audiences across the world, Tchaikovsky's music was often dismissed by critics in the early and mid-20th century as being vulgar and lacking in elevated thought. By the end of the 20th century, however, Tchaikovsky's status as a significant composer was generally regarded as secure.
