What do you know? 1. What is considered a passing grade for college/university entrance? A. D or better B. C or better 2. How many credits do you need to graduate from high school? A. 180 B. 220 C. 230

3. How many high school credits do you earn for each semester class you pass? A. 2.5 B. 5 C What are the A-G requirements? A. Your age requirements B. High school graduation requirements C. UC/Cal State eligibility requirements

5. How many years of the same foreign language do you need to get into a 4-yr college/ university? A. 2 or more B. 3 or more C. none

Graduation Requirements 230 Credits (1 semester class=5 credits) 4 years English (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th) 2 years Math (Algebra 1 and Geometry) 3 years Social Science 2 years Science (1 year Biological & 1 year Physical) 2 years Foreign Language 1 year Visual and Performing Arts 1 Semester Life Skills 1 Semester Health 2 Years Physical Education 1 Year of Applied Technology 50 Elective Credits Pass CAHSEE Pass Fitness Test

Applied Technology & Computer Literacy Applied Technology: (only graduation requirement) –Can be fulfilled by taking a course listed on the back of the planning sheet. OR.. –By taking an A-G course at AP or advanced level (3 rd or 4 th year math, science, or foreign language) Computer Literacy (Non-course requirement) –Can be fulfilled by taking a computer literacy test that can be given before graduation. OR.. - Can be fulfilled by taking a Computer course in middle school

Grades and Credit C is for COLLEGE! “D” grades = 5 credits – Credit for high school graduation only –“D” grades need to be made up for college admission. “F” grades = 0 credits – If you fail a required graduation course you MUST make it up!

A-G College Requirements A 2 years Social Science - World History & US History B 4 years English C 3 years Math - Alg 1, Geometry, Alg 2 (4 yrs. rec.) D 2 years Lab Science - Bio & Chem/Physics (3 yrs. rec.) E 2 years Foreign Language - same language (3 yrs. rec.) F 1 year Visual and Performing Art G 1 year College Preparatory Elective UC Schools only allow courses to be repeated 1 time to make up a D or F grade Minimum GPA to apply to UC schools is 3.0 (subject to change) Minimum GPA to apply to Cal States is 2.0 C grades cannot be made-up/repeated

Remember!!! NO CLASS CHANGES NO TEACHER REQUESTS Master schedule is done by computer program. Counselors only look at conflicts A change in one class creates a domino effect for all other classes Fall planning sheet is due on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the counseling office
