By the early 1900s Britain had gained most of its empire. There were some minor changes up to WWI. By the end of WWI Britain had secured their control over their colonies and emerged as one of the most powerful imperial countries. In the inter-war years the empires remained stable. However, this would changed after WWII with the beginning of the decline of empire.

The rise of the superpowers didn’t necessarily mean that Britain would do whatever the USA told them in return for loans.
