6.4 Areas of Other Figures Find the area of a trapezoid and irregular figures by using formulas of familiar figures.
Trapezoid A quadrilateral that has exactly one pair of parallel sides The two parallel sides are the bases of the trapezoid with lengths b 1 and b 2. The height, h, is the length of a perpendicular segment connecting the bases.
Area of a Trapezoid If you put two identical trapezoids together, you get a parallelogram. The area of this parallelogram is (b 1 +b 2 )h So the area of 1 trapezoid is half of that
