Global Roads – Asia Workshop Earth Monitoring Working Group January 24, 2008

There is a dearth of openly available digital street and road data in most Asian countries.

In contrast – there is a growing abundance of satellite imagery suitable for the extraction of street and road data! See Google Earth…….

Can we assist in the development of street and road data in Asia using satellite remote sensing data?

Global Roads – Asia Workshop Session One: Introduction (Chair Elvidge) 1.Introduction (Elvidge) 2.Global Roads Project: rational and status, Alex de Sherbinin, CIESIN and Chris Elvidge, NOAA 3. What is the status of street and road data in APAN (brief country reports) 4. Review of possible data sources and Openstreetmap (Elvidge) Session Two: Applcations for Road Data and Extraction Results (Chair Koki Iwao, AIST) 5. Spatial evaluation of harvesting cost considered road arrangement T. KINOSHITA (National Institute for Environmental Studies), K. INOUE (The University of Tokyo), K. IWAO c, H. KAGEMOTO (The University of Tokyo), Y. YAMAGATA (National Institute for Environmental Studies). 6. Estimation of carbon monoxide emissions - the importance of road data. Chris Elvidge and Harald Stark, NOAA) 7. Extraction of road data using ASTER, PRISM and GoogleMap. Shibasaki, University of Tokyo 8. Results from AIST Koki Iwao, AIST 9. Results from NOAA, Ben Tuttle, University of Denver Session 3: Recoomendations and Pilot Project in Asia (Elvidge and Iwao) Recommnedations Definition of a pilot project in Asia Discussion (All)
