Evidence for the Big Bang Theory Christianity, Science & Belief

The expansion is still happening today, the universe is still expanding! How do we know? REDSHIFT – the furthest away galaxies appear red. Hubble made the observation that the universe is expanding.

As something moves away from us, the wavelength (sound waves, electromagnetic radiation, light, etc.) appears to stretch out a bit. Since longer wavelengths in the visible spectrum head toward the red end of the colour spectrum, it appears to get more red.

CMBR 0 Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation 0 Is light left over from the Big Bang

Discovery of CMBR 0 In 1964, two astronomers, Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, in an attempt to detect microwaves from outer space, accidentally discovered a noise of extra-terrestrial origin. The noise did not seem to come from one location but instead, it came from all directions at once. It became obvious that what they heard was radiation from the farthest reaches of the universe which had been left over from the Big Bang.
