CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT MAY 5 & 6, 2015

Objective: SWBAT explore the historical significance of the Civil Rights Movement through its leaders. Purpose: To understand the changing social atmosphere of the United States and its relation to social justice and the struggle for absolute equal & civil rights. Standard(s): Students will describe the major issues, events, and people of the Civil Rights Movement including non-violence, freedom summer, Civil Rights Act of 1964, Voting Rights Act of 1965, Black Power Movement, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcolm X by utilizing one of the big 11 social studies skills. H3.[9-12].9 - Identify and describe the major issues, events, and people of minority rights movements, i.e., Civil Rights Act of 1964, Black Power Movement, United Farm Workers, American Indian Movement, Viva La Raza, and Women’s Rights Movement.
