 Quentin Blake is a cartoonist, illustrator and children's artist.  He was born in Kent, England.  He is well known for his work with Roald Dahl.  He studied at the ‘Chelsea School of Art.’

He has illustrated over 300 children’s books as well as illustrating some of Roald Dahl’s books. He taught at the Royal College of Art for over 20 years and was the head of the illustration department for 8 years.

 His style is unique, he used fast, scribbly lines but they are precise.  When drawing he first draws his pictures in pen or ink.  He then adds watercolours.

 They are very simple and have basic colours on them.  They are drawn in the style that it has been a child that has drawn the pictures.

 Laurens real name is actually Helen.  She has written many books, e.g. Charlie and Lola, Clarice Bean and lots more children’s books.  She also does a lot of illustrating.

Lauren gets her inspirations from other peoples conversations or seeing some thing funny happen, her character personalities are based on her family and friends.

 Lauren’s drawings and sketches are based on child like drawings.  She went to a school where her dad was head of the art department and so she studied art.  Her art work is a mix of photography and drawings.

 They are bright block colours in the drawings so they stand out and are bold.  They are basic drawings but are effective for children.

 She died on 22 nd December  She had lots of pets, she had 2 rabbits (Benjamin and Peter), frogs, newts, ferrets and a bat.  She used to sit for hours and sketch her animals.

Beatrix published the very famous ‘ The Tale of Peter Rabbit’ when she was in her thirties. She then followed to release ‘The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin’ in 1903.

 She is very popular for drawing her animals in human clothes, she described this as giving them a full personality.

 They are very imaginative and colourful.  They are all very original and are unique.  They all have individual features and characters, e.g. the way they dress.
