Optimization for Sustainable Water Resources COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS (WP15) Earth Link and Advanced Resources Development (ELARD) Malta October 28-29, 2004 Environmental and Water Resources Management Consultants

OPTIMA - Comparative Analysis (WP 15) OBJECTIVES OF WORKPACKAGE  To identify commonalities and differences and relate them to the specific regional setting  To identify more generally applicable results that are invariant across the case studies  To organize finding in terms of a comparative assessment, and best practice examples (lessons-learned report)

OPTIMA - Comparative Analysis (WP 15) TASKS  Practical interpretation of the analysis in WP13 (statistical) in the context of concrete implementation  Organization of the individual case study results in a common conceptual framework of common indicators within the overall framework of sustainable coastal zone development and resource management  Application of common economic indicators like cost/benefit ratio and the internal rate of return to the cases, and extend these concepts within the more comprehensive framework of sustainable resource management

OPTIMA - Comparative Analysis (WP 15) TASKS (cont’d)  Analysis of the combined set of case studies within this framework with emphasis on implementation  Identification and reporting of common trends and best practice examples for dissemination

OPTIMA - Comparative Analysis (WP 15) DELIVERABLES  D15.1: Case study Comparative Analysis  D15.2: Best Practice Report (including lessons-learned)

OPTIMA - Comparative Analysis (WP 15) CONCLUSIONS  Work methodology will be finalized once project progresses and actual data becomes available (what kind of data are we going to be handling?)  This is a very important workpackage to be used for improving future work and set best practices and standards in the field
