Name three different types of waves.
1. Wave - Rhythmic disturbance that carries energy through matter and space ALL WAVES CARRY ENERGY! Pulse – one wave that travels through a medium Continuous.
Waves and Wave Properties. A wave is a disturbance that carries energy from place to place. A wave does NOT carry matter with it! It just moves the matter.

Amplitude The max. distance the particles move from the “rest position” to: The more energy a wave has → The greater its amplitude Compression or rarefaction Crest or trough OR

Wavelength The distance between two corresponding parts of a wave. Measured in m, cm, mm From: Crest to crest Trough to trough Compression to compression

Frequency The number of complete waves to pass a point in a certain amount of time. Measured in hertz (Hz) 1 wave/second = 1 Hz 2 waves/second = 2 Hz

Speed How far a wave travels in a given length of time. Speed = Wavelength x Frequency If the medium does not change then the speed remains constant. S WL Freq
