Green Flag Award

What is it? Why does our school want one? How does the school get a green flag? Who helps to get the green flag award?

Green Flag award Meet our school Eco Committee Reuven, Brodie, Livi and Findlay Our parent member Mrs Bronsdon and Mrs Hunter who represents the teaching staff But every one in Saltoun school has a part to play, teachers, children and their families. We will now answer the questions.

Green Flag Award The Green Flag award is a flag that you fly from a flag pole at school.

Green Flag Award Our school wants a Green Flag Award because it shows that we care for our school, our community and our environment. To get a Green Flag Award we have work for a year on green issues and send a form to the ECO Schools Governing Body. The ECO Schools website gives lots of help and tells us what we have to do. The ECO committee have had meetings and we have chosen our three topics to work on this year, these are: Litter (which is compulsory every year), Biodiversity and School Grounds.

Green Flag Award The ECO code All ECO schools must have a code which everyone agrees to follow The committee has decided our code will be a poem It must tell people that we plan to deal with or improve litter, bio diversity and our school grounds We will have a competition to find the best poem Entries can be made by individuals, pairs or groups The ECO committee will judge the competition The final date for entries is the 14 th February 2016

Green Flag Award LOGO ECO Schools also need their own LOGO like our school badge We will have a competition to decide the best design for our logo Entries can be from individuals, pairs or groups The ECO committee will judge the designs The final date for entries will be the 14 th February.

Green Flag Award We have already started working towards the award We all bin our rubbish and we have recorded our findings from our litter picks We compost our fruit waste Lee Young has helped us plant bulbs and we have received an award for our gardening skills We have started feeding the birds so that we can take part in the RSPB Great schools Birdwatch Today we welcome Mr Hunter who has come in to help us identify the birds which we might see.
