An adverb is a word that can tell when, where, or how something happens.

Adverbs can come before or after the verbs they describe.
Today we are studying adverbs. Today is the adverb telling when.
Soon it will be summer. Soon is the adverb in the sentence.
The glass festival is held annually in Mt. Pleasant. Annually is the adverb in the sentence.
His mother sent him upstairs to study. Upstairs is the adverb in the sentence.
Mr. Michael can be anywhere in the building. Anywhere is the adverb in the sentence.
They are having recess outside. Outside is the adverb in the sentence.
You must walk quietly in the hall. Quietly is the adverb in the sentence.
Make sure you follow the directions carefully. Carefully is the adverb in the sentence.
The girl married the prince and lived happily ever after. Happily is the adverb in the sentence.
