ACADEMIC CLASSES Check one box for each core subject: ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies. 3
NON-GT STUDENTS If you are not identified GT but would like to be in a Pre-AP course, check the Pre-AP course for the subject area on your purple worksheet. Have your parent sign the course selection sheet for that Pre-AP subject(s). 4
Pre-AP ELA & SOC ST Non-GT students who select Pre-AP ELA and Pre-AP Social Studies (Texas History) will be placed in Pre-AP ELA and Pre-AP Texas History. Be sure to check for summer reading assignments for ELA and National History Day expectations. 5
Pre-AP Science Non-GT students who select Pre-AP Science will be enrolled in Pre-AP Science. Be sure to check on Science Fair expectations. 6
Pre-AP Math Non-GT students who select Pre-AP Math on their course selection worksheet will be enrolled in Math 7 Pre-AP. Be sure to check your qualifications: Math 6 semester grade, STAAR Math Advanced Level, and teacher recommendation. 7
NON ACADEMIC COURSES For PE check Regular PE (one semester) For Health check Health (one semester) These are required courses!!! 8
ELECTIVES 7 th graders will have one elective only. Number your elective choices in order of preference from 1 to 4. Electives are full year courses. Please make a thoughtful choice. If an elective is not offered or there is a scheduling conflict, students may be placed in their alternate choice. 9
SIGN & DATE YOUR COURSE SHEET! Sign the student signature line Have your parent sign and date on the parent signature line If you choose a Pre-AP course, make sure your parent signs next to that Pre-AP subject(s) 10
PURPLE COURSE SHEET Return the purple course selection sheet during lunch February 11-February 19, There will be a return box for your grade level. Please change this date on the bottom of your worksheet! 11
Online Course Selection Instructions Login to family access using student login in and password. Helpful district links are located on the top right. The Middle School planning guides are available online if you have any questions. Course Requests for in SMS is on the left under Schedules. Click the Schedules link to input your course requests from your purple worksheet. 12
Online Course Selection Instructions Click on the link Request Courses for in SMS The Available Courses list is in alphabetical order on the left. Highlight the course, click Request Selected Course. The requested courses move to the Requested Course column on the right hand side(6 total). 13
Online Course Registration All students must select all core classes ELA, Math, Science and TX history; one semester of PE, one semester of Health, and one elective. Non-GT students who select Pre-AP courses must have a parent signature by the Pre-AP course on the course sheet! 14
PRE-AP CONSIDERATIONS Summer reading is required for Pre-AP ELA The National History Day Project is required for Pre-AP Social Studies The Science Fair is required for Pre-AP Science Pre-AP Math is an accelerated course to prepare you for Algebra I Pre-AP Check the requirements. Take inventory of your strengths and weaknesses. Choose wisely! 15

Online enter electives In available courses highlight and click Request Selected Course for: 6. First elective choice Verify that you have 6 Requests! 17
Online enter alternate electives At the top left of the screen select Request Alternates tab. 1.Highlight your 1 st alternative elective and click Request Selected Course. 2.Highlight your 2 nd alternative elective and click Request Selected Course. 3.Highlight your 3 rd alternative elective and click Request Selected Course. 18
Online registration completed Verify that you have 6 Requests and 3 Alternates. Total Courses and Credits should be 6 and Total Alternates should be 3. When the selection process is completed, you may print a copy of your selections by clicking on the printer icon. Be sure to be on the Request Alternate Courses Screen to see both requests and alternates. Click the X and then the logout button when finished. 19
Important dates February th graders receive course sheets February 11 - February 19- Online Course request window for SMS in Family Access February 11- February 19 - Completed course sheets returned during 6 th grade lunch in box labeled 6 th Grade. March 7- Verification sheets sent to students March 11- Verification sheets returned during lunch March 11- Last day to request changes April 20- April 29 – Final course requests will be posted on student access. Students will not be able to view their requests after April 29,
