Do you know that... In the times of the Ottoman Empire the streets had no names. The town was divided in neighborhoods that bared the names of the tax-collectors, who were responsible for the sultan’s taxes. What can we see in our streets ? next Home

The influence of the Politics The streets’ names reflect the values and the ideals of the society. Is it possible the politics to change the values and the ideals of our society? next back Home

Tolerance The tolerance of the Bulgarians is not influenced by the politics. back Home

We decided to do that through questionnaires for the children with special needs. They live with us in our streets and are part of our present....and our society, keeps silence for a long time… The topic provoked us to look for the “others” in our streets. next See them...

However small was our contribution, it made us feel satisfied. Home

The smiles on their faces made us think that there are things that are more important than the small problems, in our daily rutine. Home

We were happy that we succeeded to make these children part of us for a while. Home

But we also felt a bit helpless, since we knew that we really don’t know how to help them to feel themselves equal with us. Home

Question: Does your child have contacts with children at his/her age? Where they could meet? My child has contacts with children at different ages, whom they meet at school, at sports places, and in the“Daily center” Question: Is there a place where your child develops him/herself? Yes, indeed. back next Inquiry WITH the “others”

Question: What in the attitude of the others to your problem hurts you most? The distress comes from the fact, that not every person is compassioned to the problem of our children, as a whole – by the attitude of the society. Question: How do you think that the process of integration of the children with special needs should start and continue? Slowly and attentively to held meetings and activities with other children, to treat the children with special needs as healthy children, to avoid their segregation in separate classes and schools. Home back next Inquiry WITH the “others”

Question: Do you believe that the local authorities could help you? What kind of help could they render? Yes, definitely. With the building of specialized health centers, with encouraging sponsors, whose money could help for sustaining such centers. Question: Do you have proposals for changes in the legislation related to the people with special needs? Yes, by rendering bigger financial support, that would help them to live normal live. Home back next Inquiry WITH the “others”

 We would continue our contacts with the children with special needs during the new school year too.  We would organize activity for raising funds, for the Association of the parents with children with mental and physical handicaps. For the time being we postponed this idea because we need more time for organization. Home

From the results of the inquiry, held anonymously among parents with children with special needs, we could draw the conclusion that the state doesn’t contribute, enough for the normal life of the children in such condition. Our society is not developed enough, to show understanding and compassion to the parents, who take care for children with special needs. With this inquiry we wanted to show that in 21-st century our society and the state should turn their attention to the “others” in our streets, to the children with special needs in particular, because they are part of our street, our town, our country, Europe, world and our life.
