2 Social Context Social context is a specific role that a person has in society –E.g. Doctor, lawyer, patient, voter –Not an issue of social interactions between people –Encompasses demographic information, etc

3 Information Users People In social context - how do people in a particular role use information Issues –What types of information are needed –How do users access information –Where is information lacking –Is information biased? Difficult to understand? –What information systems are available to support these needs

6 Doctors Who is a good doctor? Has this doctor had malpractice suits? Has the doctor made serious mistakes? What are potential problems with review sites?

7 Diseases I am having some symptoms. Do I need to do see a doctor? I have been diagnosed with a condition. What can I expect? If something changes in my status, should I be alarmed?

8 Drugs I have been prescribed a drug. –What are the side effects? –What are the interactions? –When should I take it? –Is there a cheaper, similar drug?

9 Support I have a condition (or am caring for someone with one) Are my reactions normal? What are other options for treatment? How will a treatment I’m going to undergo work? Make me feel better.
