.- The geography of Bolivia unique among the nations of South America. Bolivia is one of two landlocked countries on the continent, and also has the highest average altitude. The main features of Bolivia's geography include the Altiplano, a highland plateau of the Andes, and Lake Titicaca (Lago Titicaca), the largest lake in South America and the highest commercially navigable lake on Earth (which it shares with Peru). Bolivia comprises 1,098,580 km 2 (424,164 sq mi) of territory, of which 14,190 km 2 (5,479 sq mi) is water and is the 28th largest country in the world. This makes the nation's size roughly comparable to the size of Texas and California combined, slightly less than three times the size of Montana, or twice the size of Spain. Bolivia is located in the west-central part of South America. It borders five nations with a total of 6,743 km (4,190 mi) of borders; of these, the longest is the 3,400 km (2,113 mi) northeastern border with Brazil. Bolivia also neighbors Peru, with a 900 km (559 mi) border to the northwest and shared control of Lake Titicaca. Smaller borders include Chile (southwest; 861 km (535 mi), Argentina (south; 832 km (517 mi)) and Paraguay (southeast; 750 km (466 mi)).

Economy Primary sectors: Agriculture and Forestry Mining Bolivia now faces stiff competition from Southeast Asian countries producing lower-cost alluvial tin. Gold. and silver production has increased dramatically over the past decade. Annually, as of 2002 Bolivia extracted and exported more than 11,000 kilograms of gold and 461 tons of silver. Additionally, Bolivia has increased zinc production, extracting more than 100,000 tons each year. Other metals excavated include antimony, iron, and tungsten.Gold Energy Bolivia is energy self-sufficient. The country’s energy needs are relatively small but growing consistently. Bolivia uses oil for the majority of its power needs, followed by natural gas. The country has large reserves of both. Climate The weather in Bolivia can vary drastically from one climatic zone to another. The summer months in Bolivia are November through March. The weather is typically warmer and wetter during these months. April through October, the winter months, are typically colder and drier. In the highlands, the weather can be very cold and temperatures frequently go below zero at night, especially on the Altiplano. Snow is common in Potosi during the winter months and sometimes also falls on La Paz and Oruro. In contrast, winter in Sucre, Cochabamba and Tarija on the Cordillera Real is a time of blue skies and comfortable temperatures. The weather in the rainforest is usually very hot and is often very wet. The drier period of the year is May to October. The section of the rainforest that borders the Cordillera Real of the Andes Mountains is a bit cooler, but still very wet. As altitude declines, the temperature rises.
