The Grant Department of Education Technology Innovation Challenge Grant Classroom technology integration Key Instructional Design Strategies

KIDS GRANT KIDS Grant  40 low wealth school districts.  Less than 1,000 students.  42% or more in free or reduced lunch.  Not in state accountability system.

KIDS GRANT Grant Team  Include 5 members.  Meet the needs of school districts.

KIDS GRANT Goal One Provide equipment and instructional resources to member districts. $40,000 of equipment, software, and Internet resources for the classroom.

KIDS GRANT Equipment  Notebook computers  Digital cameras  Scanners  Printers  Other technology

KIDS GRANT Implementation  Provide the services and the training.  Help place that equipment in the classrooms.

KIDS GRANT Goal Two  Assess the students.  Offer teacher training.  Provide tools to the teachers.  Evaluate the program’s success. Teach KIDS model of instruction:

KIDS GRANT Four Modules  Diverse instruction.  Dynamic curriculum.  Assessing and capturing of learning.  Engaging parents. Online activities for member districts

KIDS GRANT Goal Three  Initiate community labs.  Bring community, parents, and students together for education. Support low income districts.

KIDS GRANT Goal Four  Train teachers to use web tools.  Develop activities for students and parents. Develop web tools.

KIDS GRANT K-3 Reading Program  Partner with Lightspan.  Use activity game format.  Improve the skills of reading.

KIDS GRANT First Highlight Reaction of districts.  Participation.  Equipment.  Institute training  Expenses paid and stipend.

KIDS GRANT Second Highlight K-3 Reading Center  Based on the Internet.  Accessed from home and school.  Marketed throughout the country.  Contributed to Texas and national children’s education.

KIDS GRANT Third Highlight KIDS Institute  Train during 5 day institute.  Participate - various districts.  Utilizes 5 member team. Administrator Technology specialist Elementary teacher Secondary teacher Reading teacher

KIDS GRANT KIDS Institute  Present materials on integrating technology in classroom.  Plan district implementation.  Obtain feedback from teachers and district participants.  Receive formal and informal project evaluations.  Review reports on the project.

KIDS GRANT Texas students benefit from the KIDS grant.
