GeoResources Institute Computational Resources: Collaborative Environment for Mapping, Analysis, and Planning CE MAP Chuck O’Hara Associate Research Professor

GeoResources Institute Transportation Infrastructure Planning Geospatial data can be used to select best alternate routes by screening for impacts, finding sensitive areas, identifying any existing hazards, protecting vital habitat, helping plan mitigation, and providing a technology basis for making informed spatially supported decisions.

GeoResources Institute Traditional vs. Computational Workflows

GeoResources Institute MSU GeoLibrary Pilot: Browse Available Data Users select specific data types like DRGs, DOQQs, satellite images, DEMs, and other data types and see a wireframe of boundaries for areas where the data are available in the library.

GeoResources Institute MSU GeoLibrary Pilot: Refine the Area of Interest In the map interface, users “zoom into” to an area of interest and use the cursor to set the boundaries to drill down to data sets.

GeoResources Institute MSU GeoLibrary Pilot: Select specific data and create output The user selects specific data files from the available data and custom output is created.

GeoResources Institute Select Multiple Datasets and Chain Processes to Create Custom Products High-resolution image data sets + Topography Maps =

GeoResources Institute Data Fusion Products Can Be Further Used In Decision Support or Operational Modes Computationally create color-balanced image mosaic and semi-transparently overlay the topography map data to combine interpretative image data with topographic data to provide engineering and planning information or for use in further mapping, analysis, and planning.
