Digital Learning: Assessing the Impact of ePortfolios in the Liberal Arts Community Emily Grim, '10 Digital Design Fellow Educational Technology Center

The Digital Design Fellowship: Areas of Impact Faculty and Class Blogging: “Thinking Outside the Classroom” ASC Students and ePortfolios: Who are our students? Who will they become? Campus Community: “Going Beyond the Quad” Toothpaste for Dinner

Faculty Impact: Why A Class Blog? Acts as a supplement to in-class material Encourages students to think “outside the classroom” Chronicles “the process of the process” Can operate as an organizational tool for assessment

Student Impact: Creating Digital Artifacts of the Self The DDF as a tutoring resource for individual ePortfolio creation/blog content/course tutoring, etc. Student ePortfolios put the liberal arts degree to work! Who are Agnes Scott students? Who will they become?

Community Impact: Going Beyond the Quad Asserting our digital presence: expanding the “World for Women” Increased accessibility = community engagement (internal and external) Streamlines our image of who we are and what we can do

Engaging the Liberal Arts Education What classes are students taking, what are they learning, how are they applying it? The digital portfolio as “the process of The Process,” or a dynamic representation of student development Making learning connections on a heightened, digital level Senior Seminars as Spring 2011 guinea pigs: incorporating the ePortfolio into upper-level curriculum

Where Are We Now? (Step 1...) In promoting web-based platforms, the Digital Design Fellowship has revitalized the ePortfolio initiative to reflect 3 vital tenants:  Accessibility  Relative ease of use  Increased exposure for the student, her academic department, and the College

Where Are We Now? (Step 2...) With the Digital Design Fellowship, our current ePortfolio initiative makes us incredibly unique and progressive Staying competitive: the necessity of continued/expanded programming and support for digital media education Issues: not only meeting students' needs, but those of our institution With more clarified organization, standard operating procedures, and streamlined goals, the DDF will exemplify “smart growth” on the part of the College

Aligning Technology Goals With the ASC Education “The World for Women”: Strengthening our community through digital outreach “Social and Intellectual Challenges...”: Graduates as multi-layered, well-rounded, digitally savvy “Who Will You Become?”: Giving our students the tools to be successful in the digital world
