CRAZY ABOUT QR CODES Ways to use QR codes in the classroom

WHAT ARE QR CODES? QR (Quick response) codes are bar codes that can be scanned with mobile devices with a camera and a QR reader. When scanned, these codes can be linked to websites, video, images, and audio files. QR codes have become a popular way for teachers to engage students in the classroom and provide a unique way to integrate technology in the classroom.

HOW CAN YOU USE A QR CODE ? To use QR codes, first you need mobile devices with cameras and a QR reader. There are several different free apps for scanning QR codes: Ipad and Iphone users can download SCAN from the app store Android devices can download QR Droid or Barcode Scanner

HOW TO CREATE A QR CODE There are several sites to create QR codes These are just a few to get you started!

QR CODES IN LITERACY Add QR codes to the back of books to link to videos once the students finish the book. Put QR codes on the cover of books for students to read book reviews or information about the author. Use QR code scavenger hunts to have students get up and move to answer questions about a novel or text. Use audio QR codes for students to listen to stories or record students reading their stories to share with parents and classmates. Have QR code activities in learning centers that allow students to check their own answers.

QR CODES IN MATH Create problem solving task cards with QR codes so students can check their solutions. Use vocabulary task cards with mathematical meanings and have students scan QR codes to find out the word or an example of the word. Link QR codes to Kham Academy or LearnZillion videos and add to worksheets or homework for further explanation of how to solve math problems. Make a worksheet using QR codes for students to scan and solve problems.

QR CODES IN SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES Use QR codes to help students link to websites and resources to help answer questions. Put QR codes on maps to give more information about a country or a person who lived there. QR codes can be placed on rocks, minerals, models of cells, etc. that are linked to websites that give more information. Periodic Table of QR codes- check this out on YOUTUBE. Students can create QR codes to scan that share reports or essays about social studies or science topics.
