What is it? The death penalty is a method to punish criminals by death. One of the crimes that leads to this is murder. The death penalty is also called Capital Punishment.
Statistics There are 3,200 people on death row, but only 37 were executed. Nearly all prisoners, 2 out of every 3, that were sentenced to death had previous felony convictions. Capital punishment has increased from 1954 to It has also decreased since 2001.
How long was it used for? The death penalty was used for thousands of years. It had been used by the Romans and by Kings and Queens in the Medieval ages. Crimes rarely happened in these times because Capital Punishment had come into effect for small crimes.
Reasons for Supporting As the statistics chart has shown, there are many more prisoners on death row now than in This means that crime rates have gone up. Why??? If the prisoners on death row were executed than crime levels would decrease. This technique has been used for thousands of years and has been successful. Why should we stop now? We would definitely save money on taxes if we executed more prisoners because the money that we pay goes to their food and shelter while they are in the jails. It is also a matter of free will. Murder is free will and people who commit it should be punished.
