Exponent Rules When multiplying like bases you add the exponents. When dividing exponents you subtract the exponents. When an exponents raised to a power you multiply the exponents. You cannot have a negative exponent. When you do you flip it or create its reciprocal. When you have a zero as an exponent the solution is always 1.
