Lockard: Direct Perspective Method

partially revealed spaces & overlapping creates spatial interest profile lines used to accentuate the overlap of furniture & spaces Spatial Interest

textural interest is anticipated tactile interest past experience tells us how things feel Textural Interest

the primary source of textural interest lies in the selection and representation of materials Textural Interest

material selection and indication are very important in design and design drawing they provide textural and tactile interest and can indicate permanence and craftsmanship Texture and Materials

materials with great character should be drawn as carefully and realistically as possible characterless materials should be left completely blank corners offer excellent opportunities for showing the texture of rough materials and can be highlighted with profile lines Textural Materials

vertical glass reflects what is between the viewer and the glass and what is behind the viewer Glass Reflections

extend grid back and reverse the order of the objects indicate reflection on the glass with vertical tones of lines, since the reflecting glass surface is vertical tones get progressively lighter as the reflection goes back into space and behind the viewer Glass Reflections

pull everything which is above the surface down through the water vertically reflections are the same distance below the water as above the water use the same vanishing points indicate all reflections on the water with transverse horizontal tones of lines since the reflecting water surface is horizontal Water Reflections

pull everything which is in front of or above a reflective surface down through the surface, in a direction perpendicular to the surface draw it as if it were the same distance below the reflective surface as above the surface indicate all reflections on the reflecting surfaces with vertical lines reflections of objects closest to the surface are darker than objects farther from the surface Reflective Materials

find the footprints of furniture and architectural features corners of the various footprints are pulled up vertically vertical dimensions can be easily determined because it is always 5’ from any point on the floor to the HL and that distance is easily subdivided or extended to the height needed Step 8 Laying Out the Direct Perspective

draw cubes for all furniture as done in the previous method draw furniture within the cubes refine drawing Step 8 Laying Out the Direct Perspective

Step 8 Laying Out the Direct Perspective add texture and details

14 ASSIGNMENT #7B Using the method discussed in class, draw a direct perspective of the living room from the SketchUP floor plan—use the furnished model or images that you collected as homework to help you construct the drawing The finished drawing must be on 11x17 bond. The drawing must include the following overlays on individual sheets of trace: grid cubes for furniture furniture drawn within the cubes preliminary drawing including accessories, plants, people, etc… final line drawing on bond Trace your final drawing using fine line marker. Your final drawing must be drawn freehand—no straightedge lines Magazine photos of furniture used or furnished model image should be handed in with overlays & final drawing Furnishing the Direct Perspective
