Unit 7 Seminar Interviewing

 Pre-screening  Structured  Panel  Stress  Non-directive  Behavioral

 Behavior-based  Situational  Traditional  Illegal interview questions (ones that are not allowed to be asked)

You have several options:  You can nicely say, “I choose not to answer that,” or ask, “How does that relate to the job requirements?”  You can get mad and walk out.  Answer the question with a legal answer. An example: "What nationality are you?" Response, "I am legally eligible to work in the U.S." Or, "How old are you?" "I’m over the age of 18."  You can decide to answer the question because you need the job.

 Practice your business etiquette  Eye contact  Hand shake  Strong listening skills  Think before you speak  What to wear… what to wear?  How do I smell (yes… you need to think about this)…

 Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

 What are your salary requirements?

 Why should we hire you?

 What are your pet peeves?

 What do people most often criticize about you?

 What motivates you?

 Do you prefer to work independently or on a team?

 How many hours do you normally work?

 How do you evaluate success?

 Do you have any questions for me?

 When would I start?  What is the vacation policy?  How many personal days do I get?  I get migraines..how many sick days do I get?

 Download the file containing various interview questions.  Select five of these.  Two need to be traditional.  Two need to be behavioral.  One needs to be illegal.  Answer each question.  Keep this so you can submit it with your final project.
