East Tennessee Technology Park – Past Missions Built in early 1940s Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant (K-25 Site) Enriched uranium for the Manhattan Project, defense purposes and commercial nuclear energy Operations permanently shut down in 1987

East Tennessee Technology Park – Mission K-31 Demolition Accelerated cleanup (Vision 2020) Reindustrialization Historic Preservation to interpret the role of the K-25 Site in the Manhattan Project and Cold War era.

ETTP Cleanup Status Demolished 379 facilities (2.9 million square feet) Removed 2.01 million yd3 of waste; transported radioactive waste ~ 2.5 million safe miles Cleared 1,400 acres for unrestricted use K-27 K-31 CNF K-1037 TSCA Centrifuge Poplar Creek Facilities

Vision Vision 2016 Completion of ORGP production facilities demolition at ETTP Continue preparatory cleanup activities at Y-12 and ORNL Vision 2020 Remaining ETTP supporting facilities, enabling additional reindustrialization Vision 2024 Expand cleanup work to Y-12 to address mercury contamination

Future Reuse: Reindustrialization 721 acres of land transferred to date 14 buildings transferred totaling 332,000 ft 2 20 leased facilities totaling 530 acres 20 private companies operating at ETTP Site infrastructure, roads and services transferred to City of Oak Ridge More than 400 acres planned for disposition by

Changes in Site Hazards 8 ORGDP production facilities (K-25, K-27, K-29, K-31, and K-33). Demolition of K-25, K-29, K-31, and K-33 complete. K-27 deactivation is under way. Residual hazardous materials are being reduced. D&D of remaining facilities complete by Hazardous waste is being shipped off site. Tenant and private business include hazardous material inventories.
