Presentation transcript:

You will be viewing work by German Expressionists With the invention of the camera Artist no longer felt compelled to record the real world, rather artist now assumed the right to abandon traditional ideas of form, space, color and shape. In Germany, artists were influenced by the Fauves, and formed a similar group called “Die Brucke” or “The Bridge” This group celebrated personal feelings, and explored violent color, and the distortion of features in their work. The Bridge was more concerned, than the Fauves, with psychological and social issues.

Your Assignment: Explore the elements Expressionism Explore distortion of Forms to express feelings Use Color for the sake of using color, or use it as a psychological element as did the German Expressionist. Use only Complementary Colors plus their tints and shades. Expressionist artists were concerned with the psychological and social drama of life and expressed their feelings in symbolic and personal ways. Express your feelings about life. How the work breaks up or Composes the Space will be critical to the success of your work. Re examine how the images break up the space.

Complements: red / green Yellow / violet
