STUDENTS FOR INTEGRATED MEDICINE (SIM)

STUDENTS FOR INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE Goal: Promoting awareness of evidence-based, integrative, and whole-person approaches to medicine and health care. Meetings: SIM holds interactive Weekly Wellness Workshops every Thursday, where we invite professionals to discuss and demonstrate their expertise in their respective fields of Integrative Medicine. Other Branches: Professional Networking Committee, Outreach Committee, Self- Care Committee, Internship Program Membership: Our membership is free! We welcome anyone who seeks to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Active members (who attend 3+ events/quarter) receive benefits. Additionally, this year we are hosting the annual Southern California Pre- Pharmacy Symposium at UCLA SoCal Pre-Pharm students can attend workshops, network with pharmacists, and participate in Q&A sessions with pharmacy school admission representatives. PROJECT RISHI

Aims to cultivate sustainable development in villages all over rural India. Sponsored Village: Vadamanappakkam, Tamil Nadu, about 100 kilometers from Chennai. Population: Approx. 5,000 Predominantly agricultural society Large disparity in income and health care We are continuing to implement new ways to expand clean cookstove usage with the crowdfunding donations. Three new initiatives: Women's Empowerment: launch their entrepreneurial interests through continuted distribution of cookstoves and advocacies English Language Curriculum: improve the English teaching technology and install a permanent link between the English-speaking members of Project RISHI and students abroad in the village Clinic and Pharmacy: improve using new and innovative ways to improve healthcare of the villiage (Rural India Social and Health Improvement) New Member Applications:

GLOBAL MEDICINE TRAINING (GMT) Mission: International, non-profit, and humanitarian organization that provides free medical & dental services in developing communities in Central America. Students are given the unique chance to directly participate in “hands-on” diagnoses and treatments under the supervision of medical professionals. This is the reason why our motto is “LEARN BY DOING.” Trips for this year: Winter break trip to Nicaragua: 12/27/14-01/03/15 Spring break trip to Dominican Republic:03/21/15-03/28/15 1st week of Summer trip to Panama: 06/14/15-06/21/15 Weekly Meetings: Tuesdays from 8-9pm in Boelter 5420 Application Process: Membership and Trip Applications are available each quarter and coincide with the upcoming trip for the quarter so currently the winter membership application is due week 3 (this Tuesday) and the trip application is due week 4.
