Counts actions or objects which cannot be moved. Counts objects to 10, and beginning to count beyond 10. Counts out up to six objects from a larger group. Early Learning Goals Recognise some numerals of personal significance. Recognises numerals 1 to 5. Counts up to three or four objects by saying one number name for each item. Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 2012 The Curriculum

Much of the maths EYFS curriculum for Nursery and Reception children is heavily reliant on the use of mathematical vocabulary and the ability of children to be able to explain and share their ideas. The Importance of Language

Problem Solving Maths is more than ‘counting’, ‘adding’ and ‘taking away’. It is about applying knowledge, giving reasons for choices and answers, developing logic and having fun!
