 Define the landscape industry.  Describe the difference between a landscape designer and a landscape architect.  Identify the duties of a landscape contractor.  Identify the duties of landscape maintenance people.  Describe the use of computers in the landscape industry. OUR OBJECTIVES

 Landscaping- the art and science of selecting plants and placing them in an attractive and functional setting outdoors.  What activities are involved with landscaping?  Why do people landscape? WHAT IS THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY?

 Landscape design is the art of grouping plants together in an attractive and functional setting  Landscape design has two directions: 1. Landscape designer- studies the horticulture behind the industry  Knowledgeable in plant i.d., plant growth, and principles of design  2 or 4 year college  Works at a nursery or on residential projects or small scale public projects 2. Landscape architect- focus on engineering and the math behind the design large scale designs must have a license and degree WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A LANDSCAPE DESIGNER AND A LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT?

 A landscape contractor has the task of taking a design on paper and actually installing it  This is known as landscape construction  What types of jobs might they do?  Works closely with the landscape designer  Supervises the landscape crew WHAT ARE THE DUTIES OF A LANDSCAPE CONTRACTOR?

 After installation, the landscape needs to be maintained  Landscape maintenance technicians are in charge of the upkeep  What duties might this person have?  Often use machinery  Large scale places like a golf course may have a crew of people working WHAT ARE THE DUTIES OF THE LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE PEOPLE?

 CAD (computer aided drafting) is used to make landscape plans to scale  Also used to:  Keep track of appointments  Make payments  Billing HOW ARE COMPUTERS USED IN THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY?
