Singular Possessive Possessive means the noun possesses or owns something. Singular possessive means one noun owns something. To show possession, we add an apostrophe and an s. The girl’s dress. The boy’s shoe.

Try It! Turn these singular nouns into possessive nouns. Jill’s I found ________ pencil. (Jill) cat’s The _________ toy was squeaking. (cat) mom’s My _________ bed is soft. (mom)

Plural Possessive Possessive means the noun possesses or owns something. Plural possessive means more than one noun owns something. Add -s, -es, or -ies. To show possession, we add an apostrophe AFTER the s. We don’t add an s because there is already an s there. We see some birds’ nests. The boxes’ lids were closed.

Try It! Turn these plural nouns into possessive nouns. boys’ The ________ pencils were on the floor. (boys) bushes’ The _________ flowers were pretty. (bushes) bunnies’ Five _________ carrots are orange. (bunnies)
