In July 1587 the English successful landed on Roanoke Island. John White was their leader.

On July 1587 the English successfully landed on Roanoke.

On August 18 th 1587 Virginia Dare was the first baby born on Roanoke.

One year later John White sailed back to England leaving the colonists directions that if they left to carve the name of the place where they were going on a post.

John White had to wait a long time before sailing back.

When John White finally sailed back to Roanoke the colony had vanished leaving only the word CRO and CROATOAN caved on trees the name of a nearby island.

One theory is that they colonist sank on the way back to England.

Another theory is that Native Americans took them captive.

The third theory is that they moved in with the Native Americans.

I think that John White found the colonists dead but lied.
