 China is located in south east Asia

 The inhabitants of China before U.S. intervention were indigenous inhabitants whose ancestors were there before 1898.

 The US certainly become an Empire (imperialist nation) when it acquired Spain's holdings after the Spanish War (1898).

 -For economic reasons -To create demand all over the world -Religion, to Christianize the "heathens" -Right of the strong to control the weak (Social Darwinism) -White man's burden/ Racism -Closing of the frontier

 Secretary of State John Hay first articulated the concept of the “Open Door” in China in a series of notes in 1899–1900.  Hay argued that establishing equal access to commerce would benefit American traders and the U.S. economy, and hoped that the Open Door would also prevent disputes between the powers operating in China.  The open door policy allows open trade between countries

 The U.S. trade deficit with China rises from $273.1 billion in 2010 to an all-time high of $295.5 billion in  China is an ally of the U.S.
