Business Background The South Texas Project Electric Generating Station is one of the newest and largest nuclear power plants in the country. STP's two reactors produce nearly 2,600 megawatts of electricity, enough for well over one million homes and businesses during summertime peak usage. The plant is an industry leader in safety, reliability and efficiency. STP has achieved the lowest fuel cost of all power plants in the U.S.

Vision STP will lead the industry through data mining; identifying opportunities for system optimization and cost reduction.

Objectives Create a data warehouse of the from our Corrective Action Program, Master Equipment Database, Procurement Inventory Control System and Work Order systems. Mine the data to identify hidden patterns that enable STP to reduce maintenance costs.

Base Tables (after clean / extraction)

Facts The fact of concern is the cost per maintenance activity.  Cost of Labor Total of all craft hours spent on activity Each activity can have many crafts  Cost of Material Total of all parts used Each activity can use many parts

Dimensions As the project is centered on data mining dimensions can be added as new questions are formed. Potential starting dimensions  Time  Activity Duration Total duration Duration per craft  Equipment Type Category Quality Class Safety Related Seismic Commercial part  Location Unit Building  Room  Parts used Part type Part manufacturer
