April 18, 2011 Objective: Students will identify the importance of employee policies and the challenges to recruiting employees.

Looking Forward Unit 9 does NOT have a Major Assignment Coming up in Unit 10 you will finish your Mini- Business Plan as the Major Assignment In Unit 11 you will create a Power Point for your Mini-Business Plan which we will be presenting in class on May 12 th (last day for seniors)

Employment Policies How do you want your employer to treat you? As the business owner how do you want your employees to behave?

Recruiting Employees What are some challenges you may face recruiting employees to your company?

Flyover Listen to the owners of Nebraska based Archrival talk about some of their challenges recruiting people to work in Nebraska.

Assignment 9.1 Write a short answer essay to address the following items using information learned in your readings and additional Internet search to support your answers. The question is: What are your policies toward employees? (have standards….but balance with the fact that you want your business to be a place where employees are motivated to come and work) How do you plan to make your business a positive and rewarding place to work? (the high cost of employee turnover is very expensive – so work on employee retention. How can you maintain a long-term, loyal, knowledgeable staff?) Hint: Think about what you look for in an employer as your answers to the above will help or hinder your employee recruitment ability and further retention of good staff.
