Chapter 12 Section 1 The Roots of Islam

Oasis is a wet, fertile, area in the desert. 1.a. Define What is an Oasis? Oasis is a wet, fertile, area in the desert.

1.b. Make Generalizations Why did towns often develop near oases? Town developed near oases because of the access to water and the ability to farm.

1.c. Predict Do you think life would have been better for nomads or townspeople in early Arabia? Nomads had to rely on what they could find while townspeople could work together for survival.

What is a key belief about God? 2.a. Identify What is a key belief about God? There is only 1 GOD.

2.b. Explain According to Islamic belief, how did Muhammad get the ideas that started Islam? He received the message from God while he was meditating in.

2.c. Evaluate In what ways was Muhammad’s time in Medina important to the growth of Islam? It was easier for Muhammad to convert people in a safer environment like Medina. People there accepted his ideas and he gained enough support to spread his message to Mecca and beyond.
