The life of the great Vampire Bat By Bilbo Bat with help from Alex Holland

Special thanks to all my friends that helped me finish this and are always there for me when I’m in trouble. Bilbo the Bat At 5553 Tasty, Yummy, Food Road Age: 3 Favorite Food: Bug Favorite time of the year: Summer Favorite thing to do: hunting © 2010 publishing press If copied you will have to spend 30 years in bat jail and get 1,000,000,000 card singings from Mrs. Jones “good luck”

Like many other animals bats are mammals but they probably have the most interesting description out of all the animals in the world Many bats have chocolate brown fur, wrinkled upper lips and ears that lie flat across our head Males are normally a little bit more diminutive than the females and when the bats are full grown they weigh normally 42 to 53 ounces. Our wings are not feathers they are made out of skin and we don’t like it when someone says that our wings are feathers. Our wings are also so thin that it is very easy to see through them. We can fly about fourteen miles and then our wings grow tired so we stop to take a break We are the only mammals that can fly and are also silent fliers to catch our prey Bats have sharp claws to hang upside down so we can rest Bats have ten claws to hang on but some bats have suckstion cups on their feet to hang upside down. Most bats will hang upside down four 20 hours a day Every bat can fly unless it was just born. Some bats have long ears and some don’t

My family life is probrobly the most important thing to bats When the mom has a baby she wrappes her massive wing around them so they can stay warm If one of the babies get hungry they drink milk from their mom a baby bat is normally born upside down the mom will sometimes hang right side up so they can use their tails to be a safety net so the baby will not fall down on the ground when one of the babies is a little bit older its mom has the baby hang on her back as she goes of to hunt for food When a baby is even older the mom teaches the baby how to hunt I have already learned how to hunt. it is very fun and I think it is easy Us bats mate in the fall but they do not have a baby until the spring the bats generally cluster together to have their young. Once a baby bat is born it looks funny because it has no fur, their ears are pressed closed and its eyes are closed tight shut The baby bat is a quarter of the size that its mother is and the when the baby bat is about two years old it is bigger than its mother and it flies away and lives on its own Bat cluster together to make young Bats fly in big packs if they are under attack

“This is my opinion but hunting is the most fun thing ever” Because bats are always not to be found they don’t have as many enemies as other animals do All of the enemies I have seen with my own eyes are hawks, owls, mice, skunks snakes, cats, weasels, opossums, and raccoons Us bats have very sharp claws to try and fight off our enemies but I would rather run away than get into a huge feud like other animals do normally don’t fight falcons and hawks and animals like that but I will give a good fight with a mouse and I have before my dad was so happy he gave me the chance to go hunting by myself and I did and I still go hunting by myself My dad is a great hunter he actually told me that he was being followed by a group of falcons and he beat them all in a fight and then a falcon 10 times bigger than all the other falcons and then he scratched it with his foot and then I flew away and I believe him but no one else does and I think that they probably don’t believe anything Me and my dad are very good at fighting we practice every morning and we practice every day because we want to win agents a falcon but my dad is already a legend so he does not need to win agents another falcon but I have not won to one in my life so I am going to try to fight a falcon and then win My dad thinks that I can beat a falcon faster than he can but I am pretty sure that he could beat a falcon in a fight 100 times faster than me and I probably could beat a falcon pretty fast but my dad could dominate one faster than me big time Bats like to run away instead of fight the enemy Bats enemies are normally large birds

With our altering diet we never get famished because with everything we like we consume a lot of stuff My favorite foods are moths, flies, mosquitoes, beetles, flying ants, dragon flies, caterpillars, centipedes, and scorpions they are so good I just want to go hunt for them now Some of us bats bite holes threw animals skin and let the blood drip out and then the bat likes up all the blood and then ventures off to where ever they live If I was not a silent flier I would not be able to catch them because its prey would hear it and then it would run away and they would not be able to live at all and I don’t want that to happen at all We us a scream so loud you cannot hear it and it makes radioactive feeling that bounce back if there is any animal that we might like to eat than we will eat it for our meal this radioactive feeling is called echolocation and the only animals that have it are whales, dolphins, and of course me and the other bats Centipedes are one of my favorite foods Some bats like to eat fruit those bats are called fruit bats

We reside in a lot of different places and I actually cannot count all of them Me and my family departed from our cave last winter and now we live in a tropical forest named Madagascar I love it so much I want to live here all my live because it is so great Many of us live somewhere that our predators cannot see us so they will not attack us and then kill us or anything like that Us bats are warm blooded so we have to live in a sertine tempiter or we will die normally we have to live in 70° we can’t even live in 69° or we will die the next day Us bats can squeeze thru things as narrow as a pencil to get to our home if we really need to Normally we live in the dark like caves and other things like that Most bats like to live in attics People that are nice build us houses to live in
