Homeschooling By: Sabrina Robinson

Homeschooling's image Homeschooled kids are often known as Weird Socially awkward Sometimes really religious "Like many critics, I used to feel vaguely sorry for homeschooled kids. What a shame, I thought..." -Shaunti Feldhahn Columnist for Seattle Times

Facts and Statistics In 2010, over 2 million kids were home schooled. Studies have shown that very few homeschooled children are socially deprived because of their exposures to all ages instead of one age group. The National Home Education Research Institute conducted a study showing that 71% of home schooled, college grads are more involved in their communities, civics and vote more often than their peers. Homeschoolers average 1.7 points higher on ACT's and 1083 out of 1600 points on SAT's, 67 points higher than the national average.

Reasons for homeschooling If home schooled... Personalized education to fit the child's needs and wants Flexible times so schooling can be done at home, at grandma's house or on a trip. Kids can learn at their own pace so they understand the material and use it in their future

Opinions That same columnist says later... "Within one month I met five homeschooling families, and their thirteen children were among the most polite, well-adjusted kids, socially adept and academically advanced kids I'd ever seen. Being home educated seemed to have given them a confidence and maturity-and yes, social skill- far beyond their years." -Shaunti Feldhahn Remember that this is a random columnist that does not have any children of her own in homeschooling.

But... Some people say... Parents are not certified to teach. Some say parents may force beliefs onto their kids and by only having contact with their parents, kids will lack social skills and even rebel. Fact says... The parents have nothing but a positive impact on their child's education. The parents can give a perfect education because they know the kid best. Parents are just as capable, if not more to teach their children.

Conclusion SO In reality, home schooled students are not abnormally socially awkward, homeschoolers get just as high if not higher grades and they enjoy it.
