JACK O’CONNELL State Superintendent of Public Instruction Categorical Program Monitoring Online Project A collaborative project of the California Department of Education and California Comprehensive Center.

JACK O’CONNELL State Superintendent of Public Instruction Project goal is to enhance and streamline the Categorical Program Monitoring review process through the application of technology. Categorical Program Monitoring Online Project

JACK O’CONNELL State Superintendent of Public Instruction Categorical Program Monitoring Online Project Discovery phase status: The various CDE program offices have set out to define project needs and submitted recommendations. Completion of this phase is within weeks of its ending.

JACK O’CONNELL State Superintendent of Public Instruction Categorical Program Monitoring Online Project Improve the review instrument readability level for the local educational agency. Review each item to identify ambiguous areas that perhaps can be supplemented with additional details.

Either document review, on-site review, classroom observation, staff/ parent interview, or a combination. Categorical Program Monitoring Online Project

JACK O’CONNELL State Superintendent of Public Instruction Current Categorical Program Monitoring Steps CDE performs the on-site review Examines compliance item documentation Conduct classroom observations Interview staff/parents Review conclusion Results of fact finding are presented and a detail report, by program type, given to the LEA. Timeframe for correction of findings discussed. LEA responds to CDE review findings Propose resolution of noncompliant findings. Request compliance follow-up assistance from CDE program staff. (Optional) Prepare a corrective action plan. Local Educational Agency preparation Analyze performance data (API, AYP, CAHSEE, CELDT). Review OPSET, English Learner and Cross Program instruments. Collect documents for each compliance item.

Collect and upload documents for each compliance item onto the CPM Online application. CDE performs review of uploaded documents Does the documentation contain qualitative indicators that would support a compliance conclusion. Determine whether supplemental information, in written form, would reveal item compliance. Based on all the documents received, will an on-site visit be necessary. CDE may conduct a streamlined on-site review Examines compliance item documentation Conduct classroom observations Interview staff/parents
