Policy Updates Policy came into force December 1, Future amendments: o Assessment process applies to individual caregivers hired to care for children in their own home AND caregivers in staffed residential resources (rotating workers). o Caregivers cannot look after children (in a family home OR in a staffed residential resource) until they have been assessed and approved. 2
Policy Updates Future amendments cont’d: o Added a definition of residence (location where child resides, family home OR a staffed children’s residential resource). o Assessment Topics – application to staffed residential resources and documentation requirements. o Criminal record check requirements apply to everyone living in the child’s prospective residence or with significant and unsupervised time with the child. 3
Policy Updates Future amendments cont’d: o Clarified language re: contract of employment with caregiver. o Revised information related to fingerprinting timelines and requirements. Timeline for implementation of policy updates: – Fall 2015 (anticipated) 4
Updates on Criminal Record Checks MCFD is in the process of negotiating changes to the criminal record check process that applies to residential care contractors. Updated process would provide a more streamlined process, that would be more timely and less costly for contractors. Timeline: – Finalized process: 2016/17 (requires potential amendments to legislation and negotiations with RCMP) – Interim Process: Fall 2015 (anticipated) 5
