2 Timothy 1:8-12 Don’t be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord (8) ▫ Never be ashamed of the gospel  Luke 9:26, Rom. 1:16 Do not be ashamed of Paul, but share in the sufferings for the gospel (8)  Paul was in prison, a prisoner of the Lord  Eph. 4:1, Phil. 1:13, Philemon 9  Be proud to suffer as a Christian  Col. 1:24, Acts 5:41, 2 Tim. 2:3

2 Timothy 1:8-12 God saved us and called us… (9-10) ▫ Not according to our works  Talking about works of merit, not works of faith  Eph. 2:8-9, Titus 3:5, Jas. 2:24 ▫ According to His purpose and grace in Christ given before time ▫ Now revealed by Jesus’ appearing  Eph. 3:3-5, Col. 1:26 ▫ Who abolished death and brought life and immortality to life through the gospel  1 Cor. 15:53-53

2 Timothy 1:8-12 Paul appointed a preacher, apostle and teacher of gentiles (11) ▫ Paul Understood the importance of his role  1 Tim. 2:7 Paul suffers, but is not ashamed …(12) ▫ Great example to Timothy  2 Tim. 1:8 Not ashamed because… (12) ▫ Knows who he has believed ▫ Persuaded that He can keep that committed to Him

2 Timothy 1:13-18 Hold fast the pattern of sound words… (13) ▫ Paul again stresses keeping sound doctrine  1 Tim. 1:3,10; 6:3; 2 Tim. 4:3, Titus 1:9,13; 2:1,2,8 The good thing committed to you keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us (14) ▫ Is this a miraculous indwelling of Holy Spirit?  1 Cor. 6:19 Those in Asia turned away from Paul (15)

2 Timothy 1:13-18 Those in Asia turned away from Paul (15) ▫ Phygellus and Hermogenes turned away from Paul ▫ Don’t really know how they “turned away” Paul commends Onesiphorus(16-18) ▫ “Lord grant on his house… and in that Day” ▫ He was not ashamed, instead sought Paul out ▫ He ministered to Paul at Ephesus
