Emotions and learning

Prefrontal cortex Amygdala hippocampus

The brain

Amygdala – security guard Why? Because it protects us from danger (help us stay safe), BUT sometimes it makes mistakes (TELL US THERE IS DANGER, WHEN IN REALITY THERE IS NONE). INHIBITS the ability the think and reason! Because is just REACTS…..

What can we do to calm our amygdala? Acknowledge your feelings Give your brain TIME to process information : “Six Seconds Pause”, or count to 10. Breathing Movement (physical activity supports mental focus). MINDFULNESS (thinking, attention, focus on the moment). Listen to calming music while practicing breathing

PRACTICE exercise Calm mind for 30 sec. to help settle down our mind and focus our attention.

THE EMOTION CONDUCTIVE OF LEARNING IS HAPPINESS NOT CONDUCTIVE OF LEARNING: FEAR ANGER DISGUST SADNESS NEGATIVE FEELINGS DIMINISH ATTENTION, MEMORY AND OVERALL LEARNING.
